Four things we do properly

01

Legal analysis

We examine your documents and the surrounding facts, then set out the risks in plain language. You receive a written opinion with a recommended course of action.

02

Document drafting

Contracts, corporate resolutions, terms and policies drafted for your actual situation. Every clause is written to survive review by the other side.

03

Transaction support

We accompany sales, leases, share transfers and financing from first draft to signature. Deadlines, filings and counterparty correspondence stay on our desk.

04

Consultations

A focused session on one question, in the office or by video call. You leave with a clear answer and a short written summary.

About the firm

A small chambers by choice

Somerville Chambers was founded in Aachen in 2003 and has stayed deliberately small. The lawyer who takes your first call is the one who drafts your documents and appears on your correspondence.

We work mainly with owner-managed companies, family businesses and private clients across North Rhine-Westphalia and the neighbouring Belgian and Dutch border regions.

  • One responsible lawyer per matter, from intake to closing
  • Fixed fees agreed in writing before work begins
  • Correspondence in German, English and Dutch
How we work

Four steps, no surprises

01

First conversation

You describe the situation and we tell you honestly whether there is a case worth pursuing.

02

Review & quote

We read the documents, define the scope of work and confirm a fixed fee in writing.

03

Drafting & filing

Documents are prepared, negotiated with the counterparty and filed with the relevant registry.

04

Handover

You receive the complete file, and we stay reachable for questions that arise later.

Expertise

Where our experience is deepest

What clients say

They rewrote our distribution agreement in four days and caught two liability clauses we had signed for years. The fee was exactly what was quoted.

Katrin VosskühlerManaging Director, Aachen

Our property purchase involved a Belgian seller and a German bank. Somerville handled both sides and we signed on schedule.

Bernd LohmeyerPrivate client, Eschweiler

I called with one employment question and got a clear answer the same afternoon. No padding, no unnecessary correspondence.

Questions

Frequently asked

The initial conversation, in which we assess whether we can help, is free of charge and takes about twenty minutes. A full consultation with written conclusions is charged at a fixed fee agreed in advance.

Most new matters are opened within two working days of receiving your documents. Urgent deadlines can usually be accommodated the same day if you call the office.

Yes. Correspondence, meetings and drafting can be conducted in German, English or Dutch throughout the matter. Documents intended for German registries are of course filed in German.

Wherever the scope allows, we agree a fixed fee in writing before starting work. Where the volume genuinely cannot be predicted, we bill hourly against an agreed ceiling.
